Rent a house or a Room in Gozo, Malta
When in Gozo, where's the best place to stay?
I always recommend staying in Victoria ** because the town is the capital of the island and you're always in the center of things. It must be noted that Victoria is as quiet and peaceful as any of the villages especially in the afternoons and evenings. From here you can reach everywhere in 10 minutes at the most, by public transport, be it the beach, a place of interest or another village.
** though I also rent Flats at Marsalforn and elsewhere
If you opt to stay in a hotel there is only one in Victoria, if I remember correctly, so your choice is very limited. And you will be staying with a hundred other guests. So it's not very encouraging. Regarding self-catering flats there are a few but for the most part they are situated on the outskirts of the town or in a busy street with lots of unwanted traffic noise. My MARIA TOWNHOUSE is the ideal solution, not because it is mine but because it is really a pleasure recommending it. It is a small guesthouse in the very center of the old part of the city, in "the prettiest street of the town" as an Australian architect who stayed with us for a couple of days described it.
We only have 4 bedrooms so you will not be sharing with a hundred other guests, waiting for the lift, having breakfast in the restaurant crammed with people, etc. You are sure to enjoy a family-like atmosphere with us friendly owners and a couple of other guests. It would be very pleasant and relaxing.
In a hotel you are just a room number whereas in a Guesthouse you are part of the 'family' with (my wife and myself) your hosts ready to help you out with any questions you may have, give you free tips of where to go, what to see, etc., cater for your every need and anxious to make your stay as enjoyable as humanly possible.
As regards my Guesthouse there is no curfew so you can stay out as late as you like. We give you a key to the front door so that you will have freedom of movement 24/7. The only thing that you would have to watch out for is not disturb the other guests when you walk in in the middle of the night :)
Our family run Victoria Guesthouse is located in a pedestrianized street just 20 paces from Pjazza San Gorg. It is a 300-year-old building tastefully restored with no more than 4 bedrooms. The number of guests at any one time would never exceed 6 so you may imagine the quiet friendly atmosphere. The rooms all have an ensuite bathroom for complete privacy and comfort. Besides there is a cosy hall/sitting room downstairs with TV and a fireplace for the winter. WiFi is free and accessible all over the house and in all the rooms.
We operate on a sleep-only basis and a one-night minimum stay. In each bedroom our guests have tea and coffee making facilities plus mineral water and croissants. This enables us to keep our fees as low as possible and to give our guests the opportunity to savour a delicious Breakfast with 'pastizzi' in one of the several Cafes in Pjazza S. Gorg. Pastizzi are small cakes filled with fresh cheese or peas. Very savoury and they go very well with a good cup of coffee.
A full English or continental breakfast may also be ordered at the inexpensive Cafes which make this square (Pjazza) quite well-known and popular with most of the visitors to Gozo.
